> Molly F. Morin, a Ph.D. student in the Higher Education, Student Affairs, and International Education Policy (HESI) program, was the lead author of A National Education Blueprint: Investing in Hispanics to Fulfill America's Future, a 2015 report from the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics, housed in the U.S. Department of Education.

> The Center for Early Childhood Education and Intervention (CECEI) hosted its first Summer Institute at the University of Maryland. Developed in partnership with Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) and underwritten by the Bainum Family Fund, the 2016 Summer Institute for Early Childhood Special Educators brought together PGCPS educators and experts from the University of Maryland, the Maryland State Department of Education, National Geographic, and the Smithsonian Institution.

> President Obama reappointed UMD College of Education alumna Jannette L. Dates (Ph.D., '79) as a Member of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting's Board of Directors. Dr. Dates, who received her doctorate in Educational Administration from the College of Education, to serve on the Board through January of 2022.

> Kelly S. Mix, Ph.D., chair and professor at the University of Maryland College of Education, received a $1.8 million grant from the National Science Foundation to develop innovative methods to teach children place value concepts. The four-year award supports research to develop an effective way to teach kindergarten and first grade students this important foundational math concept.

> COE ranked in the 98th percentile for its undergraduate elementary teacher preparation program, according to a 2016 report by the National Council on Teacher Quality.
